In August, 1962, Deane visited Fort Polk, Vernon Parish, Louisiana to report on the 39th Division of the Arkansas National Guard, a parade and ceremony. Brigadier General Lincoln Maupin Cummings (left) of Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas and Brigadier General Ivan E. Jackson of North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas were two of the highest ranking officers of the 39th Division.
